Teresa Moorleghen, MS
Teresa's decision to go down the path of integrated wellness came through many years as a movement artist and teacher. Both curiosity and education brought her to a new paradigm on how to heal the body physically, intuitively and emotionally (the mind-body connection). Teresa’s method incorporates the scientific principles based in Neurocognitive Therapeutic Exercise (NTE) and Biotensegrity. Teresa is a movement therapist, a movement educator and an advocate for personal healing and loving oneself in the moment.
A unique thing one can expect with Teresa is that she truly honors the individuality in each client by discovering what is needed for each person’s unique need for health and healing. It’s never been just an exercise class for her or her students.
Teresa earned her Masters of Science in Kinesiology from A.T. Still University, her Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Pacific University. She started her journey of certifications and becoming a multi qualified functional movement teacher in 2001. Teresa is now a Qualified Teacher of Fletcher Pilates, a Certified Pilates Instructor of the Pilates Method Alliance, and a Certified Yamuna Body Rolling Practitioner.
She has worked as a Pilates teacher at Body Works Studio in Tucson, AZ, Fletcher Pilates International Headquarters, and at Studio 4 Pilates in Half Moon Bay, CA. She has also worked as a Physical Therapy Aide and Pilates and Body Rolling Instructor at Welhab in Watsonville, CA. She currently teaches at Coastline Pilates and Therapilates in Santa Cruz, CA. Additionally, Teresa has served on the faculty for The Ron Fletcher Program of Study and was lucky enough to study closely with her longtime mentor, Pat Guyton of Pilates Conservatory.
Underneath the certifications, Teresa's study of movement began with gymnastics and dance as a child. She's worked with local and nationally touring dance and theater companies as performer, teacher, choreographer, and movement coach since 1997. As a dance artist, she was taught to just start creating because if you wait to be inspired you will never get started. "Inspiration comes from development and honing of skills -- the act of creating."
While living in Tucson, AZ, she performed with The Flying Modern Dance Company, ORTS Theater of Dance, and Flor De Liz Dance. She also performed in the San Francisco Bay Area with Moving Arts Dance Collective and Last Planet Theater. Teresa also contributed to Pilates Take Out: 10-20-30 Guide to Fitness.
"Teresa's knowledge base is phenomenal. Her academic credentials and experience will tell you that. But, it's her practice, her careful observation and articulate direction, as well as her delightful sense of humanity that bring her to be a compassionate and highly skilled professional." --S.D.
